The Japan Center bids farewell to Dr. des. Yosuke Buchmeier, who is leaving LMU Munich at the end of September to assume a new position as Departmental Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Japanese Studies at the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies, University of Oxford.
Yosuke Buchmeier completed his doctorate at LMU with a dissertation on Japanese public service media, which was awarded the Faculty Prize of the Faculty for the Study of Culture. During his time at the Japan Center, he taught a wide range of courses on Japanese media, politics, and society, and contributed actively to the academic life of the institute. His research combined a strong focus on contemporary Japan with comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives, particularly on issues of democracy, media, and public policy.
At Oxford, Yosuke Buchmeier will continue his research on the politics of public media while also expanding his comparative work on public/economic policy, aging societies, and intergenerational justice. He will teach at the Nissan Institute and contribute to strengthening the ties between Japanese Studies and the social sciences.
The Japan Center warmly congratulates him on this appointment and wishes him every success in his new role.
